eMedia Piano And Keyboard Basics is brought to you by the makers of volumes 1 and 2 of eMedia Piano and Keyboard Method.  Their format is largely the same.  However, the eMedia Basics package is just that - basic.  The program caters for those of absolutely no prior musical experience or knowledge, focusing on the beginner steps of rhythm and note-reading.  If you need this, it is a good place to start, but if you have had any previous musical training you will be surprised by how quickly it comes back to you and therefore how quickly you can dispense with this software.  We would therefore recommend this only for those who are entirely new to playing a musical instrument.

The program does offer the facility to connect to a MIDI keyboard to input your playing and allow for feedback.  This is particularly useful here, in a program designed for the musical novice.  It will tell you where you are going wrong so that you can gradually pick up the skills to notice your mistakes for yourself and eradicate them.  Bear in mind, however, that this will require you to buy a MIDI keyboard which is a great additional expense.  Therefore, although Media Piano and Keyboard Basics looks like a great way to test whether you want to further your interest in the piano at a very reasonable price, in reality it will cost you a lot more if you want to fully utilize all its features.  Also be aware that although this software package on its own is quite cheap, if you intend to continue with the second and third programs in the series, the cost begins to mount considerably.  You might be better off buying a single product that will last throughout your learning process.
