eMedia Piano And Keyboard Method: Volume 1 is the first half of the series culminating in Volume 2, which is placed in our top 10.  Much of the information for the two is similar, though the amount of time given to the different disciplines is different between the programs, and Volume 1 contains considerably more practice pieces than its successor.  The overall structure, however, is the same, and so you should refer to that review for further information.

The program is largely a success - the lessons are well-designed, and the topics covered are both broad and deep.  Most importantly, it provides the learner with all the basic skills needed to progress to the level needed for Volume 2, and the confidence to take a more independent approach to their learning.  With the knowledge and technique picked up in this program, you will be able to move on and discover music that suits your style and taste.

One of the things that makes this course such a success is that it seamlessly combines instruction through different media to give a fully multimedia approach to learning.  Video instruction, written music and features such as the animated keyboard and song highlighting all contribute to speeding up the learning process as well as making it a more enjoyable experience.  The pieces on offer here will also help you to enjoy the program, with music ranging from the classics to a few less well-known gems.

There are weaknesses in iMedia Piano and Keyboard Method:Volume 1.  The teaching is not at quite the quality of those further up our list, and the style of teaching is fairly conventional.  If you have already tried conventional lessons without success, you might want to go for a program that concentrates more on the aural aspects of playing.  However, overall this is one of the better products available.
