Editor's Verdict:

The USB Teach Me Piano Kit contains exactly the same software as the regular Teach Me Piano program.  However, in addition to this, you get everything you need to connect your computer to a keyboard, allowing you to make the most of all of the features that the software offers.

A distinctive feature of the USB Teach Me Piano Kit is that it can actually 'hear' what you play, and tells you if you are doing the right thing or if you are making mistakes that might otherwise go unnoticed.  This is very different from the usual programs, that just tell you how it should be done and leave you to decide if you are doing the right thing.  For complete beginners, this facility is absolutely invaluable, giving you the confidence you need to progress by indicating when you are playing correctly.  Not all piano courses offer this and so if you want this particular feature )perhaps because you are an absolute beginner or merely like the idea of playing into the software and being assessed by it), the USB Teach Me Piano Kit is an excellent choice.

As noted in the review of the original Teach Me Piano, one of the main problems was the need to purchase a keyboard to use all of these features.  The USB Kit goes some way to remedying this, providing you with a USB MIDI Interface to connect your computer to a keyboard.  However, it is important to note that it does not supply you with the keyboard itself - this will need to be an additional purchase.  The reason this product does not make the top ten whilst the original version does is that we do not feel it represents best value for money.  If you have no idea what you are looking for, this is a safe option, as you can be sure you are getting the right equipment.  However, if you have the confidence, you can buy one separately - many are overpriced, but you should be able to find one for under $10 if you look around, or even get one included in a package with a keyboard.
